The Good Pennyworths' concert

October 02, 2013

On Monday, October 14 at 7:00 pm, NYC’S The Good Pennyworths (Renaissance Vocal Quartet with lute and Gothic harp) will present their newest concert, “Love is but a Jest: Songs for Fools & Lovers”, at Emmanuel Episcopal as part of a 17-city tour. Freewill donations are accepted at the door. Approximate running time is 70 minutes with no intermission.

Serious composers have written songs about fools and lovers for centuries. If you’ve ever acted the fool to impress someone, or felt the fool when you haven’t, you know why composers can’t resist such rich themes. The Good Pennyworths, known for their witty musicality, have collected an irresistible program of these musical jests from across the ages, featuring works by Dowland, Ventadorn, Moulinie, Bataille, Rossini, Billings, Hopkinson, Billy Taylor, Sondheim and Simon & Garfunkel with fresh arrangements for combinations of voice, lute, Gothic harp.
