Emmanuel Episcopal Church coordinates volunteers from our congregation during both March and October each year to work at the Bristol Soup Kitchen. This project, sponsored by the United Company Foundation, provides free hot lunches to any resident on their distribution routes in Bristol, Virginia. The kitchen itself is located in the old Sullins College, and the staff prepares homemade soups each weekday morning.
Volunteers from area churches assist with packaging the soups into individual containers, and with packing the vans with soup, milk and crackers for delivery to residents of the city. Approximately 1000 soup lunches are prepared and packed daily and distributed to those who express a need for food assistance. During each of our volunteer months we are proud that our work helps to feed over 21,000 persons for whom food security may be problematic.
